My favorite place is Bree, where the constant rain and populated feel make it seem surprisingly cozy.Ĭombined with constant characters scattered around the world offering quests, many, many secrets and Easter eggs hiding in the nooks and crannies of the map, and the ever-prevalent LEGO humor that the games have mastered, this game is certainly not a bad pick at all, for anybody looking for a casual game, or one they can play with a friend. Lothlorien has an ancient, antique feel, Rohan an adventurous and exciting atmosphere, and Osgiliath a ruined, broken-down and empty spirit. Not only is the detail amazing, but the ambience for each area is top notch. Each area is painstakingly crafted, with a fantastic level of detail being put into making these areas. You are able to explore areas all the way from peaceful, cherry Hobbiton, to the beautiful Elven city of Rivendell, to the grand, fabled ‘White City’ of Minas Tirith, all the way to the dark expanses of Mordor. While most LEGO games had a hub area from which you could access the various levels, LEGO Lord of the Rings’ hub was the entirety of Middle-Earth, as seen in the movies. Not only are they very well made and they still hold up today, especially for a 15 year old game, but the heart of this game (and its main distinctive feature) is the absolutely massive hub level. Like any LEGO game, it had the typical series of missions, following the plot of and featuring voice lines from the movies. You wouldn’t expect much from a LEGO game, right?
